Growing up in a household of artists and musicians in New York City, it was natural for Ben Tinker to pursue a degree in Fine Arts at SUNY-Purchase College, a bastion for the visual and performing arts. After graduation and a brief stint at The Museum of Television and Radio, he worked at his first production house, the infamous NVI of NYC. There he learned the basics of machine room operations, working on demanding projects, and that he preferred the world of post-production to that of field production.
Ben migrated to California in the late 90’s and joined Total Media Group as a tape librarian/shipper/tape-op. What really interested him was the audio studio, The Magic Shop, located on the premises at Total. Ben landed his dream job with the Magic Shop in 1999. Ben has worked side by side with Chris Hedge on a wide variety of projects from corporate clients to African percussionists to independent documentaries. In his off-hours, Ben likes to record local bands, and occasionally join some of them for live performances. Ben also pursues DJing for a variety of venues and events, and has maintained an ever revolving cast of players in his art band project, That Hideous Strength.
